about

I wrote this album as a response to losing my voice due to vocal nodules. It was a long deeply dark process but after 3 years of rehabilitation I regained full expression of my voice and recorded this record.

"The Blue Hour" refers to a night at Lake Tahoe, about 3 months after I was diagnosed with nodules, in which my friends and I got lost in the dark after a hike to the edge of the frozen lake. We finally made our way back through the forest and spotted a single lantern that led us to safety. During the hike we watched the sun set and saw the sky change form magenta to a deep blue.

This experience became a metaphor for my dark experience of losing my voice and the small beacon of hope that led me to regaining my voice and my my ability to perform again.

The record explores light and dark within myself and those around me in a spectrum of instrumentation that stretches from live string quartets to analog synths and vocal drones.
